I’ve been busy prepping for this weekend’s Online @etsy Market organised by @birminghametsy which takes place on Saturday AND Sunday.

Yesterday’s @justacard prompt for Indie Week was events, so this ties in nicely with the idea to SHOP INDEPENDENT. When you buy from a small business, you’re not helping someone buy another jet or mansion, you’re helping us pay bills and buy food and keep on making beautiful (and/or useful) things. And that money is spent in the local economy, and paid in taxes, so it benefits everyone. Plus, you get major props for being a thoughtful, awesome gift-giver. Win - win!

I can’t stop thinking about how the government banned all Eid celebrations at 9pm the night before, Diwali gatherings were cancelled, and yet with four weeks to go, Christmas is apparently un-cancelled and everyone can get together and spread Christmas cheer/COVID to up to three different households. The ignorance and lack of empathy from this government are atrocious, and on top of that, the lack of foresight is deadly. The virus isn’t going to ease off just because it’s Christmas. People are going to die, just so Boris can pull the ‘I saved Christmas’ crap.

I’m taking out my anger by painting these baubles. It’s definitely going to be my go-to greeting this festive season. Fuck the Tories indeed!

What a day! Thank you SO MUCH for all your orders, love, shares, and the ace community feels!! It IS different not being able to meet people in person, not hearing that burst of laughter over a certain piece, or dashing around everyone’s stalls to save and seek out treasures to buy later. But I’m glad we’re keeping ourselves and others safe by staying home and doing things this way. And everyone involved in the @indie_roller Market has pulled together to create something special, and in the same spirit as a physical fair. And the same is true of all the markets I’m involved in - @birminghametsy next weekend, and @harbornehandmade the weekend after. The maker community is flipping awesome. I guess one bonus of doing a virtual market is you never run out of display space - you just grab another wall!

Today’s @indie_roller challenge prompt is all about packaging. Indie businesses have the BEST packaging - FACT. I’ve received so many purchases that are wrapped so beautifully - it just shows how much care goes into every bit of running an indie biz.

At the start of lockdown, when I switched from selling mostly (large) papercuts to offering prints and now baubles, it felt like the perfect time to give my packaging an overhaul. I didn’t have to use tons of bubble wrap anymore. I could actually wrap little things in tissue paper and tie them with string! Woohoo! It was so much fun planning out colours and designing cards and stickers. I LOVE wrapping. (Almost as much as I love rapping, but that’s a whole nother story. And sadly, I’m only good at one of these.)

So here’s a peek at how your orders will arrive, depending on what you’ve ordered. There’s also the option to add gift boxes for the baubles, to give more of the ‘treasured keepsake’ feels.

And don’t forget, I can post anything directly to the recipient with a free gift tag and handwritten note - just leave your message in the box at checkout - making it a perfect way to tick things off your Christmas list without the hassle of wrapping and posting yourself.

I’m taking part in the @indie_roller Online Market Extravaganza this weekend, and as part of that, there are some fun daily prompts, and today’s is: YOU and your fave Christmas product.

We put our tree up at the weekend, and in amongst all the decorations I found my elf costume. It’s made of fake fur and kept me toasty warm most of last December, so I’m glad we’ve been reunited. So here I am, dressed as an elf, holding up my Deck The Tories keepsake bauble, which is my favourite product right now. I’ve been busy painting and papercutting and drawing and packing the past few weeks, getting ready for a bunch of markets I’ll be selling at. I’ve made a nice helpful list so you can see where I’ll be - even if I won’t actually BE anywhere other than my house, I’ll have different offers running at the different markets, and will be releasing new products especially for them.

In my bio you can find links to my Etsy shop, thortful page, and online directories for the markets - a great way to find other makers who are involved, and get your Christmas shopping done nice and early.

It’s on! The @indie_roller Indie Essentials Market. From now until 9pm you can shop from over 350 makers using the hashtag #indierollerchristmas or checking them out from the directory in my bio.

As well as my Deck The Tories baubles, I’ve got prints, mirrors, and I’ve just added a massive version of the bauble to hang on your door or wall. Everyone knows the season of goodwill is the most anti-Tory time of the year, so you can add the wreath (or baubles) to your Christmas decor for years to come.
